DAVID ESTES’ REACTS TO GENERAL PETRAEUS RESIGNATION

The resignation of General David Petraeus, head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), dominated the media the last few days. Davis Estes, Director of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center and rumored successor to Petraeus, reacted to the news to Petraeus’ departure from the agency loudly, “It’s absolutely unbelievable, I mean, this man was my hero”.  Estes, along with the rest of the country, is in shock upon hearing the allegations of marital infidelity behind Petraeus’ resignation, “finding out that he resigned because he was having an affair was, frankly, very disappointing. I did not expect something so mediocre, I thought it was because of the Benghazi situation.”

Pending the search for a permanent replacement, the President has named acting director Michael Morrell to lead the agency. Morrell has assured the nation that he is a completely asexual human being, and that he does not engage in any sexual acts whatsoever. When prompted for a comment regarding Morrell’s statement, Estes stated that he will not misrepresent himself just for a directorship, “This is the CIA, marital infidelities come with the gig, it is in our handbook for Pete’s sake!” Furthermore, Estes indicated that if Morrell claims to be completely asexual, it should be questioned how effective he would be at permanently directing the agency, “You have to wonder about people like Morrell, I mean, he is basically a priest. You may jump to your own conclusions at this time, if you know what I mean.” When questioned regarding a previous allegation of an extramarital affair, Estes was perfectly candid, “there’s a reason why I’m divorced, and now it is out in the open, so no one should expect me to resign over something so ordinary as having an affair, unless it is with a terrorist.”

Almost Friday

It has been one hectic week. I work as a telephone triage nurse, and some days I wish I can punch people in the face, especially grown men calling complaining of a cold. Anyway, I ran a little over 9 miles total this week, which is not too bad since I did lift weights twice this week as well on alternate days. Weight is still pretty stable, 12 weeks today officially so 28 more to go!!

So just for an idea on what I do when I lift weights, I usually work on my arms and back. Occasionally I do lunges with the 25# kettle bell, and do step ups with full body squats. I use two 15# dumbbells for overhead lifts, 10# dumbbells for lateral raises, and kettle bell squats, and bent over raises with the 25# weights. I warm up with 10 pull ups, 20 push-ups, and between 10-15 burpees. I do as many sets of this as I can in 20 minutes with adequate rest in between. Then I do 10 reps bent over raises each arm, at least 3 sets. 10 reps overhead lifts, at least 2 sets (although this really makes my arms tired so sometimes it’s more like 1 1/2 sets). Then lateral raises I do 20 reps at least 3 sets because of the light weight. Anyway, all I did today was 10 full body pull-ups because I’m just glad I can still do them =D today is a rest day just like yesterday.

Sunday morning workout

I wanted to do a long run today, but woke up feeling crappy. The husband convinced me to do an Insanity workout and settled on “pure cardio” which is a shorter time overall but without the 30 second breaks that is usually the case with the other videos. I took many breaks during the workout, careful not to raise my heart rate above 150 bpm. This isn’t exact science as it varies with each person where the heart rate needs to be without straining too hard or breathing too hard, but I found in my many runs that this is the max for me, anything above this and I can feel it and I would not want to be re-routing the oxygen supply other parts of my body instead of my baby. Did I mention I am also 11 wks 3 days pregnant? Well working out has definitely had some major changes since I found out, and the morning sickness does not help, especially when I’m trying to get a workout in before work. So far I found that if I get up early enough (around 0415-0430) I am able to run longer distances before feeling sick, but feeling tired all the time makes it harder to wake up at this hour even though pre-pregnancy I routinely woke up at 0400 to make breakfast and workout before heading to work and dropping kids off.

Anyway, so after this morning’s workout, I ate some fried eggs, bacon, and some leftover beer-battered halibut from last night’s dinner. I added a little bit of rice, since I found that lately whenever I worked out my body seems to be looking for a little bit of carb. I try to tell myself it’s from the pregnancy, and eating rice instead of bread or other baked goods keeps me from deviating from my primal diet too much. Plus it’s the least processed out of most of the carb options I tend to crave. The other day I actually gave in and bought a cupcake from my favorite bakery, but the subsequent guilt really took the enjoyment out of it. So I decided cupcakes will be limited to once a month, and only if I did something truly extraordinary (like maybe 100 step-ups per leg followed by a body weight squat—the last time I did this I couldn’t walk for a few days, so I know it’s a really good workout). Same goes for the super delicious buckwheat cinnamon rolls that is also available at the world’s best bakery here in Anchorage.

The husband is making dinner tonight, and he is using some pasta in it so I will be picking out the chicken and broccoli for the most part and only eating a small amount of pasta. I plan on doing some more weight lifting later on tonight and maybe squeezing in a short 3-mile run. I am still fortunate enough to be able to do pull-ups, but I’m quite sure I won’t be able to keep doing them for the entire pregnancy. Same goes for push-ups, still pretty easy at this point but I am getting slightly bigger each day. Apparently pregnancy shows a lot earlier the more babies you’ve had in the past (I have two girls, ages 5 and 2). So at 11 wks, I’m showing a little bit depending on what I am wearing. My jeans and all my pants fit perfectly fine for now, so we’ll see how long it takes before I have to start buying some sort of belly band. So far so good, counting the days until the Mayor’s marathon in June =D
